Voncile Minrose White, Ed.D, died on Feb. 9 th , 2020, in Boston MA. Dr. White was born in Salisbury, NC on 7/12/1939. Her parents were
Frederick Douglass White and Narvie Avanell Purifoy.
For 15 years Dr. White was a beloved member of the order of Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She entered the Society at Kenwood 9/7/1962, made first vows there 3/20/1965, and final profession at Greenwich 9/4/1971. She was an elementary teacher and administrator at Greenwich 1965 to 1977, moved to Boston to continue her graduate studies, retired from the Order, and established her private clinical counseling practice in
Cambridge.
Dr. White held a B.A. from Manhattanville College, a Masters’ Degree from Harvard University, and completed her Doctoral studies at Boston
University in 1985. She taught at both Lesley College and Boston College, and served as Dean of entering students at Wellesley College for 15 years.
She is survived by two sisters, Joicey White Granados of Washington D.C. and Paula A. Larke, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, two cousins, Rev. Wesley Williams of Orleans, MA., Laura Williams Thomson, and her children, Ben And Willie Thomson of Haverhill, MA.
A celebration of Dr. Voncile White’s life will be held in memoriam on April 25 th , 2020 from 1 to 4:30PM at the Stockyard Restaurant in Brighton, MA. Dinner will be served at the restaurant. RSVP to Laura Thomson laura.thomson@comcast.net , or (978)578-0416.
