Thomas “Tom” Gately, a loving son, devoted father, proud brother, passionate sportsman, and beloved friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His greatest motivation and source of pride were his two children, with whom he shared countless adventures—teaching his daughter to play softball, taking them camping, and passing down his love of sports and music. A proud graduate of Watertown High School, Class of 1990, Tom was a standout on the baseball and football fields. A lifelong outdoorsman and avid fisherman, he cherished his New England Patriots season tickets and celebrated each Super Bowl as if it were Christmas, the Fourth of July, and New Year’s all rolled into one. Known for his quick wit and unmatched humor, Tom was truly the funniest guy in the room—no joke. His comedic talents even led to selling skits to well-known comedians, ensuring that laughter followed him wherever he went. Tom’s warmth, humor, and devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom, age 53 of Watertown, passed away on August 8, 2025. Loving husband of 21 years to Laura (Young) Gately. Cherished father to Sean & Erin Gately. Beloved son to Esther (Meehan) & John 'Jack' Gately. Dear brother to Ellen Duguay, M. John Schwalm & his wife Dottie, Linda Schwalm, Esther Schwalm, Billy Schwalm & his wife Eileen 'Beannie', Lillian Duest & her husband Paul, Donna Benites & her husband Pedro and the late Richard Schwalm. Doting uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. Devoted son in law to Claire Young & her late husband Stephen & brother in law to James Young.
