Retired Police Lieutenant James Conley

     Jim was born in Cambridge in 1947. He was the son of the late James Edward and Helen (Sliney) Conley. He was raised and spent most of his adult life in Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1966. In 1968 he enlisted in the US Army. He served his country as a military police officer until his honorable discharge.
     In 1971 Jim began his career with the Watertown Police Department. He received his BS degree in Criminology from Northeastern University and Masters in Criminal Justice from Ana Maria University all while working full time and raising a family. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in charge of the night patrol and rose through the ranks to become a Det. Sergeant, and then Det. Lieutenant. He also served as Lieutenant, Officer in Charge of the Uniformed Night Division. He spent most of his career working nights, thus the nickname Midnight. During his career with the department, he received numerous commendations. He proudly served the citizens of Watertown for 31 years.
     Jim’s interests included carpentry, travel, skiing out west and throughout New England. He enjoyed watching Boston sports, especially football and the Patriots. Jim was a quiet inspiration to others. His strong spirit, wisdom, patience, and sense of humor always sustained us, especially living with his chronic illness, Multiple Sclerosis. His family wishes to acknowledge Jim’s personal care attendants for the past several years. His family is grateful for the loving care afforded him by Michelle, Pat and his dear friend, Franco.
     In addition to his wife of 25 years Jean (Weatherbee), he leaves his daughter, Tracy B (Kevin) of Thompson, CT and the late Wendy L Conley; his grandchildren, Zachary, Kevin (KJ), Elizabeth, and Tessa; his sisters, Patricia McNulty (Marty) of Hudson, and MaryEllen Phetteplace (late Ron) of Marshfield; Sister-in-law of Gail Weatherbee, of Tewksbury; the late Roland, Lois and David Weatherbee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and dear friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend … and a loyal, respected cops cop.

     Family and friends are welcome to come Celebrate Jim’s Life by gathering in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St., WATERTOWN, for visiting hours on Thursday, from 4-7 PM, and again on Friday at 11 AM, followed by a 12 NOON Funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, 212 Main St., Watertown. Burial private.
