Maureen Simpson Obituary

Maureen Anne (Mooney) Simpson passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, January 11 2021 at the age of 72. Maureen was born on April 28,1948 to Charles Allan and Marguerite Mary Mooney. She was a lifelong resident of Watertown. Growing up, weekend visits with her grandparents and cousins in Lowell were commonplace and treasured as a meaningful memory.  Maureen was a 1966 graduate of Watertown High School and went on to graduate from Aquinas Junior College. Maureen spent many years working at the St. Elizabeth’s Health Center as a Medical Secretary and most recently at the Boston College Career Center, where she was adored by her colleagues and students, before her retirement in 2013.

Maureen is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Roger Simpson. Maureen and Roger were married on June 2, 1973. They enjoyed traveling together but found the most joy in their time spent at their second home in Ogunquit, Maine. They developed close friendships with their neighborhood friends that have lasted through the years. Maureen is also survived by her brother Kevin and his wife, Jenifer, of Framingham. Maureen was always proud of her younger brother, which was evident when looking through old photo albums and discovering any newspaper clippings where he was mentioned, carefully folded away for safe-keeping. Maureen is lovingly remembered by an abundance of nieces and nephews (great and great-great). Katie DiPalma and husband, Dan, and their children Charlie, Annie, and Owen of Medfield. Jen Crouse and son Dexter of San Leandro, CA. Mike Crouse and wife, Meredith, and their children Colin, Nathan, Bridget, and Kieron of Stow. Kim Mooney and wife, Caroline Marotta, and children Edward, David, and Callie of Lincoln. Melissa Pica and husband Greg of Milford. Nancy Skar and husband Paul of Londonderry, NH. Janet Dilling, husband Duane, and their son Barret of Marlborough. Matt Pica and wife, Jessica, and their children Sophia and Adaline of Milford. Jackie Gould, husband Neil, and their son William of Milford. Sister-in-law Judy Sherman of Marlborough. Maureen was predeceased by her nephew Donald Sherman (July 2020). Maureen will be sorely missed by her closest and most devoted friends, family and cousins, all of whom will remember the love, kindness and happiness she brought to all of them.

In addition to family and friends, Maureen loved to spend time at the beach, traveling, reading and shopping. Maureen was also an avid Red Sox fan and was particularly fond of Jason Varitek.  Maureen had a quiet and steady way of making it known that she was always thinking of you and always listening. We know she still is and will miss her beyond measure.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Maureen at St Patrick’s Church, 212 Main St, Watertown, MA on Friday, January 15 at 10 A.M. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Stuart St, Watertown.
