Luciano DeAngelis Obituary

Luciano DeAngelis, age 90 passed away peacefully in his cherished home on September 30, 2024. Beloved husband of 67 years to Italia (Siniscalco) DeAngelis. Adoring father of Franco DeAngelis and his wife Denise, Robert DeAngelis, and Laura Farry and her husband, Brooks. Cherished "Nonno" to Anthony and Michael DeAngelis and Austin and Julia Farry. Dear brother to Maria Guarino and to the late Rosa Alonzi, Remo DeAngelis and Pietro DeAngelis. Luciano was the oldest of five children. He was born and raised in the small town of Atina Italy. It was in Atina where he found his deep passion for soccer. He would tell us how he never worked the family farm and instead could be found at the campo sportivo playing soccer. He played on a professional team and traveled all over Europe, doing what he loved most. It was also in Atina where he met the love of his life, Italia.

He began his journey to the United States in 1956. He worked for his uncles construction company and began to plant his roots. In 1957 he return to Italy to marry Italia. On December 28, 1957 they were married in the church of Santa Maria Assunta Atina Italy. Italia was so excited to travel to Rome for their honeymoon. Luciano could not resist and took her of course to a soccer game, he later returned to the states and settled in Watertown. Eventually in 1960 Italia and his firstborn son Franco joined him. His family grew with a second son Robert and finally his daughter Laura. Luciano continued to play soccer in the states. He played professionally for a bit but friends were everything to Luciano, so he decided to return to play with his Newton soccer club. He unfortunately broke his leg at 33 which ended his career. He no longer played , but never stopped loving the game. He could always be found watching the game of soccer. Roma was his team.

In 1967 he started his own masonry company and by 1970 he bought his first brand new home. Luciano was a perfect example of the American dream. Worked hard every day of his life providing for his family. Luciano was an avid gardener. He would be in the garden by 5 AM and spent hours upon hours, planting and caring for his vegetables.  Luciano loved his family most. He was proud of his children and adored his grandchildren. Luciano welcomed everyone into his home with open arms. You never left his table with an empty stomach. You ate whether you were hungry or not. He was a storyteller and had the true gift of gab. You instantly fell in love with him. He made you laugh, and he always had some strange life advice. Luciano loved life and lived each day to the fullest. He was often referred to as the mayor or the legend. He was larger than life.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Luciano’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Nardone Funeral Home 373 Main St., Watertown on Friday from 4 to 7 PM and again on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM funeral mass in St. Patrick's Church, 212 Main St. Watertown.
