John Silvestro

               John J. Silvestro, 98, of Belmont, MA passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022. He was the loving and doting husband of the late Louise Silvestro for 63 years and the beloved father of son Joseph and daughter Gail Craffey and her husband Ed. Devoted 'Papa' to grandsons John and Peter Craffey and Justin Silvestro.
              John was born and lived in Boston's West End, went to Commerce HS and was an officer of the Mercury Club. He was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella (Morelli). He was predeceased by his brother Salvatore and sisters Anna Spinale, Rose Scarpato, Mary Consolino and Josephine Silvestro.
              Don't know how he did it but John worked 2 full time jobs for many years to support his family - US Postal Service and branch manager at First Federal Savings and Loan.  His love of Baseball started as a kid, was a good switch hitter and got to interact with Ted Williams who would come to the ball field and mentor the youngsters. On his 90th birthday he threw out the first pitch at a Futures game. Golf was another pastime, even with his short backswing he still hit em straight and played til he was 90.
            After high school John enlisted in the US Army and was in Italy, Austria and Germany (including Berkchtesgarten) towards the end of WWII.
           John was buried with a military ceremony in Bourne at the National Cemetery on Aug. 5. There will be a remembrance ceremony at Nardone Funeral Home at a later date to be announced. Funny and/or poignant memories are encouraged.
