John "Giovanni" Pagnani, of Waltham, passed away at home surrounded by family at the age of 92 on April 24, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Delia (Nardone) Pagnani for an inspiring 70 years and the devoted father of the late Eva Perry and Emily Sweeney, alongside her husband James of Waltham.
John's legacy extends to his grandchildren: Michael Perry and his wife Annie of Bellevue, Washington; the late Matthew Perry of Waltham; James Z. Sweeney of Puerto Rico; Jessica Sweeney and her husband Stephen Wilcinski of Dana Point, California; and Erika Sweeney and her husband Thomas Clancy of Waltham. He was a loving great-grandfather to Jack, Oliver, Logan, Will, and Woods.
Son of Amelia D’Andrea and Benedetto Pagnani of Italy, John was the brother of Caterina Ianucci of Sterling Heights, Michigan the late Antonio, Arcangela, Celeste, Giovanna and Onorio, all of Italy.
With only a 4th-grade education, John carved out a life rich in accomplishments. From navigating the skies as a pilot, playing the accordion in Venezuelan Coca-Cola radio commercials, tending to his fig tree through Boston winters, and building houses and apartments brick by brick, his pursuits knew no bounds. Whether he was teeing off on the golf course, shuffling cards with friends, or tending to his garden, his laughter echoed through the air, infusing every moment with warmth and joy.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate John's life during calling hours on Monday, April 29, from 9:00 - 10:30 AM in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main Street, Watertown, MA, follow by an 11 AM Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham. Burial will follow at Newton Cemetery.
