Joan Kelly Obituary

Joan (Forte) Kelly Age 79 of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday February 5, 2020. Beloved mother of James Kelly & his wife Denice, Robert Kelly & his husband Ray Diveley, Joanie Kelly and Jeannie Kelly. Cherished grandmother to Jackson, Keelin & Michael Kelly. Dear sister of Rose Caso & the late Anthony Forte Jr., Theresa Caruso & Bette Cullen. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

The youngest of 5 children, Joan often shared fond memories of her upbringing as part of a large Italian family in Watertown. These early experiences guided her as a mother and she instilled these values and the importance of family to her four children. Joan was most happy at any event that brought her immediate and extended family together. Whether it was a gathering around the holidays, a summer vacation or her regular Sunday dinners of pasta and meatballs, these occasions always brought smiles, laughter and a special sense of togetherness.

Joan also cherished any time she was able to spend with her three grandchildren. Despite many miles that separated them, she loved their visits and phone calls and could not have been more proud of their accomplishments and the fine young adults they have become.

Joan was also blessed to have such a close group of friends, many of whom were in her life since childhood. They enjoyed a lot of fun times together, including trips to Cape Cod or any destination that included a beautiful New England landscape, a nice lunch, conversation about their lives and family, and lots of laughter. Their support for one another, in both good times and bad, gave her a tremendous sense of strength and love.

While family and friends were so special to Joan, her yellow lab Maggie was often jokingly referred to as her ‘favorite child’. Maggie brought her many years of companionship and love.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Joan's life by gathering for Visiting Hours in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St., WATERTOWN on Sunday from 2-5 PM and again on Monday at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM Funeral Mass in Saint Patrick's Church. Burial in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
