Gloria Greenough Obituary

Gloria A. Greenough, aged 93, died peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Beloved wife of the late
Richard T. Greenough. Gloria was born on September 2, 1930, in Brighton to Mark E. and Pauline Kelley.
She grew up in Watertown and attended Watertown High School, where she met the love of her life and best friend Richard. They married in 1948. Gloria is survived by five children, Richard, Jr., Mark, Jody, Philip and Paul; her children’s spouses Susan, Margaret, Patrick Menton, Jamie Parker and Janet, and her eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

While she took great pride in helping to support her family over a fifty-year business career, Gloria’s greatest joy came from her children and extended family, taking immense pleasure in their accomplishments large and small. A voracious reader, Gloria was also a prodigious letter writer who unfailingly sent notes and ‘walking-around money’ for birthdays and holidays to dozens of friends and family members alike. Richard and Gloria enjoyed travelling across the USA, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, and Russia. After sixty-seven years in Watertown, Richard and Gloria retired to Brewster and then Falmouth, before residing most recently in Newton at Stone Senior Living. An inveterate volunteer, Gloria provided support to the Watertown Pop Warner football program, the Parker School in Watertown, Brewster Thrift Store, and Falmouth Public Library, among others. Gloria had the enviable ability to make friends wherever she went, and they all seemed the better for it. She lived her life for her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Gloria will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and those who knew her for her unbridled optimism, raucous laughter, and sincere sweet nature. We are grateful for her many sacrifices, acts of kindness and her gracious presence.

Family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Gloria’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St. Watertown on Friday January 26, from 4 - 7 PM. All may gather on Saturday January 27, in St. Patrick’s Church, 212 Main St. Watertown for a 10 AM Funeral Mass. Burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory can be made to the Watertown Boys & Girls Club.
