George Danielson Obituary

George S. Danielson Jr. “Bunky”, age 85 of Waltham formerly of Watertown,  passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020. He was the high school sweetheart and devoted husband to Carole (Hiney) Danielson for 60 years. Together they raised four children.

He is the devoted father of Karen McCormack of Nashua, NH, James Danielson and his wife Jeannie of Bellingham, Susan Chicco of Braintree, Julie MacGlashing and her husband Ray of Marlborough. He was a dear and loving “Papa” to 9 grandchildren; Erin, Tara, Angela, Jimmy, Renee, Ryan, Jim, Amy, and Stephen and 5 great grandchildren; Lillian, Anthony, Chloe, Gabrielle and Axel. As well as his step grandchildren Christine and Tom and their children. He also leaves his siblings; David and Paul both of Arkansas and Lillian Power of Danvers. He was predeceased by his parents George Sr. and Dorothy (Farrow), brothers Billy and John. He leaves many cherished nieces and nephews.

In his early years he was extremely athletic and enjoyed golf and tennis to name a few, but primarily his skillfulness and joy shined in basketball. He grew up playing hoop at the Boys and Girls Club in Waltham where a meal would follow down the block at The Chateau. His talent was so that he was invited to try out for The Boston Celtics. You would not hear these stories from “Bunky” though, he was the most humble and giving man, to which anyone you speak to about him will agree, as well as have a story to share.

He graduated from Watertown High School where he went on to be employed at The Massachusetts State house for over 30 years as Chief Senate Court Officer and aide to then President of the Senate, Maurice Donahue. He retired at 55 years old and enjoyed many blessed years doing exactly what he wanted. His activities included; cooking on the grill with family, puzzles, refinishing and repairing furniture in his garage/ workshop and simply being with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He frequented The Chateau in Waltham playing Keno and being with friends, as well as a regular at Joe’s Variety in Watertown for numerous years where he was always ready to make, pick up or deliver a sub.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday June 11, 2020 at 11 AM in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Waltham Boys and Girls Club on their website www.walthambgc.org or by mail with note of memorial to; Waltham Boys and Girls Club 20 Exchange St. Waltham, MA 02451
