Evelyn Barbara Knapp

           Evelyn Barbara Knapp passed away at age 85 on Thursday, June 16, 2022, in her residence in Watertown. Barbara, as she preferred to be called, was born in Shoreham-by-Sea in England to William and Evelyn Remnant. Her family was bombed out when she was four, after which they moved to the Isle of Wight. She met and married Emerson Knapp in 1959, originally residing in Bournemouth. They moved to the U.S. in 1961, and lived in West Orange, NJ. before moving to their home in Jefferson Township, NJ. They adored one another and made each other’s happiness.
             In addition to New Jersey, Barbara also made homes in Baytown, Texas; Marsa El Brega, Libya; Kingston- upon-Thames and Ewell, England; Haugusund, Norway; and Stonehaven, Scotland. Barbara became a U.S. citizen in 1972.
            All her life, Barbara loved gardening, cooking, and needle crafts, and was highly accomplished at all of them. Her garden featured primroses and rare Japanese maples; her cooking was shaped by Julia Child and Jacques Pepin; she could embroider, cross-stitch, knit, tailor, and upholster—all at the highest level.
            She is preceded in death by beloved husband, Emerson, her siblings Elizabeth, William, and Reginald, and survived by her daughter Alison, son-in-law Douglas, granddaughter Fiona, siblings Victor, Donald, and Pamela, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family service when her ashes are scattered in Claytor Lake, Virginia, where Emerson’s ashes are.
