Edward Newbould Obituary

Edward J Newbould, (96) of Watertown, died on Monday April 5, 2021, fully vaccinated against covid since March 24, 2021. He was born September 14, 1924 in Manhattan, New York to Catherine and Walter Newbould.

He joined the Coast Guard during WW II at seventeen years old and became the head cook on The Cross Rip Lightship which patrolled the area of the Nantucket Sound. It was during his time at sea that he met the love of his life, Madeline "Ann" (DiPietrantonio) Newbould of Watertown. By exchanging letters through the Golden Cookie boxes that were sent to the soldiers, they met and after a six week courtship, married in 1945.
After being discharged, they made their home in Watertown. Edward became a senior pressman at Winthrop Printing where he retired in 1989, after forty plus years. He then took on a part time job at The Bait Bucket in Waltham. He had many hobbies, one of his favorites was to go fishing at Horn Pond and Walden Pond. He also loved to garden. Every March he would start his tomato plants from seed, where he would lovingly tend them. His family would enjoy fresh tomatoes every summer. Edward’s most favorite past-time was spending time with his wife, over the seventy-six years, this never changed.

In addition to his wife, Madeline "Ann", he leaves his five children, Diane & her husband Billy Boulay, Edward & his wife Carol Newbould, Catherine & her husband David Newby, Phyllis & her husband Daniel Tempesta, and Patricia & her husband Brian Menton. His grandchildren, Peter and Steven Ronayne, Stacey Claire, Laurie Toohey, Edward, Christopher, and David Newbould, Debra Smith, Paul and Robert MacNeil, Heather Marino, Scott and Mark Hughes, Jessica Volmer, Matthew, Patrick and Timothy Menton. In addition, thirty-seven  great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
