Dr. John Pepple Obituary

John Robert Pepple of Waltham, Massachusetts, died in the tender care of his loving wife Edie Blue and his son, Justin Hage Pepple.
John was born in Key West, Florida on February 8, 1950. He was the third child of seven born into the Navy family of Captain Donald J Pepple, USN and Anne Marie (Schindler) Pepple. He spent the first 17 years traveling as required to various naval bases in the United States, Hawaii and Guam.

He graduated with honors and was president of his class at Norfolk Catholic High School in 1967. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with honors in 1971. He was forever an avid Notre Dame sports fan. He earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Michigan State University. He completed his pre doctoral internship at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center.
He was an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in the Teacher Clinician Track. He participated in major NIMH and VA cooperative study research initiatives investigating the neuropsychology and molecular genetics of schizophrenia. He has coauthored over 15 articles in this area. Dr. Pepple was most proud of having supervised psychology interns and postdoctoral Fellows in the assessment and treatment of male and female veterans with severe psychopathology for over 20 years.
John loved sports and he and Justin made pilgrimages to almost every major league ballpark in the U.S. He was a passionate golfer, loved horse racing and classical music concerts and the Boston Pops. He wholeheartedly embraced his roles as loving husband, dedicated father, caring son, thoughtful brother and kind friend. Unfortunately, he developed cancer 2 years ago and fought to the end with grace and fortitude. He was grateful for the individual and expert care that he received at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as the kindness and gentleness he received at hospice Care Dimensions in Lincoln Massachusetts.
John was predeceased by his father and is survived by his wife, Edie Blue; his son Justin Hage Pepple, from a previous marriage, his 97 year old mother, Anne Marie Pepple; his six siblings: Nancy (Paul) Gonsalves, James (Elizabeth)Pepple, M.D., Judith, Mark, Mary (Mike) and Anne Marie (Sean) Brown and extended family and dear friends. John will also be remembered with love by his nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
John’s funeral arrangements have been made through the Nardone Funeral Home 373 Main Street Watertown Massachusetts 02472. The wake will be held Friday, January 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
