Dorothy Sorrentino Obituary

Dorothy M. (McHale) Sorrentino of Natick, MA, formerly of Watertown, peacefully passed away on May 29, 2021 at the age of 95.

Dorothy was born and raised in South Boston.  She was the daughter of the late John J. & Margaret E. (Keefe) McHale.  As a young woman, she worked as a clerk at Kennedy’s and Jordan Marsh Department Stores in Boston before marrying and raising her children in Watertown, MA.  She later worked at King’s Department Stores in Newton for 16 years.

Dorothy’s life’s devotion was her love and time spent with family and friends.  She splendored in visiting with her great grandchildren and relished in her adventurous outings with friends. She was the planner of many New England road trips with her friends Mary, Pearlsie, Lydia, Margaret, Carmella, Lorraine, and Marie. An endearing matriarch of the family, she was always giving of her heart and wisdom.  She had the gift of familial storytelling and was always excited to celebrate birthdays and the precious milestones of our lives.  She enjoyed musical plays, TV detective stories and sit-coms, crossword puzzles, bowling, fashion, travelling (especially driving) and simply relaxing with a cup of tea and dessert.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Francisco (Frank) D. Sorrentino for 72 years.  She is survived by and was the loving mother of Frank D. Sorrentino Jr. and his fiancé Sandy Finlay of Orleans, MA; Stephen J. Sorrentino and his wife Jill Jorgenson of Lynnfield; Kathleen M. (Sorrentino) Hawes and her husband Brian of Natick; Donna M. Sorrentino and her partner Debra Bunn of Barnstead, NH.

Dorothy also leaves behind and was the cherished grandmother of Bradford F. Hawes & wife Elizabeth; Breanne K. Hawes & husband Justin Sweeney; Erica A. Sorrentino & husband Tim Cleary; Jillian (Sorrentino) Mengers & husband Mike; & Frank D. Sorrentino III.  She was also the caring and loving great grandmother "Great Nana" of Annabelle, Theodore, Sloane and Hannah, and another great grandchild due this October.

She was the devoted sister of eight siblings, including the late Richard, John, Edward, & Robert (Bobby) McHale, Margaret Messina, Marie Winch, Rita Hardy & Patricia (Patsie) Cerasuolo, as well, sister in-law to Lorraine McHale and deceased in-laws Pat, Emilio & Tony Sorrentino and Vincent Cerasuolo.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends.

The family plans a private viewing and burial service for the immediate family due to concerns around Covid.  However, a memorial celebration of life with relatives and friends is planned for a future date.
