Daniel J. MacDonald age 84 of Newton, passed away on August 18, 2023. Beloved husband of Sandra (Boynton) MacDonald. Devoted father of Wayne Walton & his wife Linda, William MacDonald & his wife Pam and Joseph MacDonald. Cherished “Papa” to Timothy Walton, Eric Walton, Danielle MacDonald, Billy MacDonald, Jaime MacDonald, Jessica Walton, Dillon Walton and great-grandfather, known as 'GG Papa' to Tyler & Liam Walton. Dear brother of the late Ellen Karsay and Elizabeth ‘Betty” MacDonald. Survived by two lifelong childhood friends of 80 years, Bernie Saulnier and Davey Russo.
Daniel was born in Waltham to Joseph and Anne (Sullivan) MacDonald. He then moved to and was raised in Watertown, where he graduated in 1957. Daniel then started his career as a bar tender at the famous ‘Sammy Whites’, he later embarked on a vibrant journey in the restaurant business working in places such as Kings Row in Boston, Callahans in Newton and JJ McKay’s in Wayland. Beyond his professional endeavors, Daniel was known for his zest for life and his passion for a good card game. Texas Hold'em and cribbage were more than games to him; they were avenues for laughter that he shared with his grandchildren. Daniel was also an avid fan of wrestling, finding entertainment and excitement in every match. Sports held a special place in Daniel’s heart, as he cheered on the Red Sox and Patriots with unwavering devotion. His loyalty to these teams was matched only by his loyalty to family and friends. Daniel had a way of brightening up any room he entered, filling it with warmth and a genuine interest in others. While Daniel has left this world, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of camaraderie, passion, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire us all.
Family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Daniel’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St. Watertown on Wednesday from 4-7 PM and again on Thursday morning for a 10 AM funeral home service. Burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute or the American Heart Association, in honor of Daniel’s compassionate spirit.
