Chumba Baia

    Christopher Baia, affectionately known to all as "Chumba," passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2026, at the age of 34. He was the beloved son of Cheryl Baia-Martines and her husband Raphael, and Robert Baia and his wife Maria. Cherished grandson of Louis Baia and his late wife Dorothy Baia, and the late Anna and Horace Van Fossen. Cherished brother to his loving older brother and his wife Christina Hacsunda, Brandon Baia, Amanda Baia and Joseph Baia , Michaela Baia  brother-in-law to Erika Baia; stepbrother to Laura Murray and Cate Dore and her husband Eddie. Dear uncle to Sofia Hacsunda  Zachary and  Isla Baia and Eddie Dore Jr.  He shared unbreakable bonds with his "brothers of the heart" — Ramon, Ryan, Hyson, Jordin, Jacob, Anthony, Eddie, Mikey, Louis, Geoff, Keith , Adam O, Adam and Ed.

    To know Chris was to know joy. He was impossible to ignore, with a smile that lit up every room he entered and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His infectious grin even earned him a nickname that stayed with him for life. Chris had a remarkable gift for finding humor in every situation and making those around him laugh. He wasn't just the life of the party — he was often the reason the party was unforgettable.

    Beyond his larger-than-life presence, Chris possessed a tremendous heart. Whether serving as a mentor, coach, volunteer, or friend, he showed extraordinary kindness, compassion, and patience, especially toward those who needed encouragement or felt overlooked. He made people feel seen, valued, and accepted. A fierce competitor with an unwavering determination, Chris approached every challenge with passion and grit. He always gave his all, no matter the odds, and while he occasionally had a talent for bending the rules, it only added to the charm that made him so uniquely loved. Above all, Chris was fiercely loyal. No one stood taller for their friends and family than Chumba.

    Though his time with us was far too short, the laughter, love, and unforgettable memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

    The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the West Bridgewater Police, Fire Department, and Ambulance Service for their care and assistance.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Chumba's memory to the Newton Boys and Girls Club, a place that held a special place in his heart throughout his childhood and helped shape many of the friendships and memories he cherished throughout his life.    Family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Chumba’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St. Watertown on Wednesday June 10, 2026 from 4-7 pm and again on Thursday June 11, 2026 at 12:30 for a 1:00 PM funeral home service. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery.
