Barbara Welch Obituary

Barbara “Mima” Welch, 79, of Tyngsborough, MA, passed away December 19, 2021.

She was born to the late Lucien and Fanny Zaiko, August 27, 1942, in New Britain,  Connecticut. Barbara  graduated from New Britain High School in 1959.

She married Donald Welch  in  1963 and they lived together in Duxbury, and then Groton, Massachusetts before relocating to Tyngsborough, Massachusetts in 2020. Barbara is survived by the three children she devoted her life to raising: Kyle Welch and his wife Rebekah, of Exeter, NH; Catherine  Welch, of Tyngsborough, MA; and Kevin Welch and his wife Sunshine , of Walnut Creek, CA. She is also survived by 5  grandchildren, Casi, Madeline, Owen, Shiloh, and Kaiden.

For over 20 years, Barbara helped Don operate a summer camp in Maine called Agassiz Village, a residential camp for inner city children from the Boston area.  In addition to her role as office manager, she served as the “Camp Mom” for hundreds of campers and teenage staff in need of a sympathetic ear or a shoulder to cry on while they were away from home.  Over the years, many of these campers and staff became her “Camp Family” and she took great joy in watching them grow each year and was touched that many of them came and visited her recently to reminisce about camp days or share stories of their own families.

Barbara leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories.  She was never too busy to listen and laugh, and was the kindest and most generous person one could ever meet.  Although she was always the happiest surrounded by family and friends, she also enjoyed private walks through the woods of Groton with her dogs Sam and Zack.

A  memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15,  2022  from 4-6p.m. at the Nardone Funeral Home 373 Main St. in Watertown MA.
