Peter Santamaria Obituary

             Peter Santamaria, age 93 of Watertown, passed away on July 3, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband to wife of 70 ½ years, Eva Sansone Santamaria. Devoted Father to Debra Igoe and her husband Stephen Igoe and her late husband Anthony Rousseau of Watertown, and Dean Santamaria, his late wife Heidi of Charleston, West Virginia and his fiancée, Carolyn Anderson. Loving Grandfather to Derek Rousseau, Kerstin Santamaria, Tarin Santamaria and her husband Cody Suek, Devan Root and her husband Nathaniel, and Dean Peter Santamaria and his wife Shannon. Devoted Great Grandfather to Raylee and Frankee Allen, Eva and Hudson Suek, Isabelle Santamaria and Lucas (Duke) Peter Root. Dear brother to Bernadette Speranza, the late Elaine Covino and the late Mary Vacca. Survived by his many nieces and nephews.

             A World War II Navy Veteran, he joined the US Navy at 17, serving for 5 years (‘44-‘49), before being discharged to come home to get married. He was a Notary Public, Constable and Town Meeting Member, served as Chairman of the Board of Park Commissioners and as a member of the Personnel Board for the Town of Watertown.
            Peter was a lifetime member of the Sons of Italy, Piave Fiume Lodge, Waterotwn, serving both as Venerable and the first President to be installed at the new lodge home on Pleasant Street many years ago. In addition, Peter served as a Delegate to the state conventions for many years. He was a member of the Men’s’ Bocce League and participated in stage productions at both the Sons of Italy and Oakley Country Club. He loved traveling and was a great dancer. Peter belonged to a group of six couples who met once a month at each other’s home for 25 years.

            He was affiliated with US Industries before opening his own business manufacturing women’s sportswear. He had factories in Malden and Worcester, MA before retiring. He was also a member of the Elks of Watertown and enjoyed many years as a golfing member at Oakley Country Club in
Watertown.
            Due to the Corona virus, services will be private. A Celebration of Life honoring him will be scheduled at a later date.
