Mary Ellen "Gig" DeAngelis Obituary

Mary Ellen DeAngelis, age 73, died on Saturday February 24, 2024.  A lifelong resident of Watertown, she passed away peacefully at home by the side of her husband of 52 years, Anthony J. DeAngelis. Devoted mother to Kristen DeAngelis of Amherst, Massachusetts, and her husband Jacob Mayfield; Matthew DeAngelis of Churchton, Maryland, and his wife Lindsay DeAngelis; and Rachael DeAngelis of Worcester, Massachusetts. She was also the beloved Nana to Alex, Michael, Olivia, Lola, Ramona, Dominic, and Ian. She was a dear sister to Katie Gilchrist, Paula Caliguiri, Kevin Gilchrist, and the late Patricia Dirrane and Kenny Gilchrist.

Mary Ellen met Tony at Watertown High school, from where they both graduated in 1969. They were married on September 19, 1971 at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown. They raised three children in Watertown. Mary Ellen was a stay-at-home mother until her children got older, when she began a career at first Watertown Savings Bank and later Cambridge Trust Company, where she quickly became a beloved member of the business communities in town. She played golf and cherished her Wednesdays with the Nine-Holers at the Oakley Country Club in summer, and their candlepin bowling league in winters. She loved to travel with her husband Tony, and they were able to visit many places, including big trips like Croatia, Italy, Bermuda, Aruba, France, and Ireland, and smaller trips to Rockport with “the Rockport Crowd,” and our annual family trips to Horseneck Beach. She loved being a mother and wife more than anything, and her loss will be felt by the whole family.

Ma, aka Nana, aka Gig, aka Auntie Gig, aka Auntie Giggly, aka Mary Ellen, will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many members of our community whose lives she touched. Family and Friends are welcome to come celebrate Mary Ellen’s life by gathering at the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main Street in Watertown on Tuesday February 27th for visiting hours from 4 to 7 pm, and again on Wednesday February 28th at 11 am for a funeral home service, followed by burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Belmont Street in Watertown.
