Of Plymouth, Mass., age 91, on April 23. Resident of Newfield House for many years, which her family thanks very much for her care. Wife of the late William B. Stearns, Jr. Leaves her daughter Martha Stearns of Cambridge; her son William B. Stearns III and his wife Nancy B. Stearns of Plymouth; and her son Peter B. Stearns and his wife Carmelina G. Stearns of Manomet, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Grandmother of David K. Kapell and Hannah W. Day-Kapell; William B. Stearns IV, Laura S. Flynn and Elizabeth S. Marks; and Victoria and Isabel Stearns. Great-grandmother of Madelyn and Lucy Stearns; Samuel and Jack Flynn; Clara, Anna and Jane Marks; and Xavier Day-Kapell. Born in 1924 in Gardner, Mass. to Adah Keyworth Brooks and Herbert Euclid Brooks, president of the family’s Conant Ball Furniture Co. Sister of the late Nan B. Goodell of Williams-town and Bellingham, Wash.; the late Stephen A. Brooks of Gardner; and the late Herbert E. Brooks, M.D., of Newton; and step-sister of Kimball Saur-ino of Gardner and Ned Saur-ino of New York. Sister-in-law of Phyllis A. Brooks of Gardner; Harvey E. Goodell II of Kodiak, Alaska; and John H. Heywood of East Falmouth. Graduate of Simmons College, Class of 1946, from which her mother Adah and granddaughter Isabel graduated. Co-owner with her husband and treasurer of Indian Brook Cranberry Bogs, Inc., part of the Ocean Spray cooperative. Active in community organizations, including Community Nurse and Girl Scouts. Enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching birds, golf, sailing, skiing, swimming, travel. Loved entertaining family and friends at Indian Brook in Manomet, at Eagle Creek in Naples, and on their boat, whichever “Turtle” it was. Services will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, the Newfield House Scholarship Fund, Plymouth County Wildlands Trust, or Simmons College.
