Our beloved Candace Lipira died on Sunday, August 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Candy was born on September 22, 1950 in Jersey City, New Jersey and received her Bachelor's Degree from Seton Hall University. She went on to become an incredible chef. She was sought after to teach cooking classes and ran her own catering business, The Traveling Gourmet. Candy was known for her parties and filled our friends' and family's hearts and bellies with her delicious recipes during the holidays.

She is survived by her mother, Joan Johnson; sister, Barbara Johnson-Lee; daughter, Amanda Gookin; sons, Chris and Jamie Schupp; step-daughter, Cecilia Lipira; and grandchildren, Connor, Zachary, Lucas, and Griffin Schupp. She is preceded in death by her father, James Johnson; and husband, Eugene Lipira.

With a lifelong love of the arts and music, Candy was a supportive music mom who encouraged her daughter, Amanda, in her music career from the time she was a little girl. Extremely proud of her two sons, she raised Jamie and Chris, into loving fathers and a successful lawyer and businessman. She attended and videotaped every soccer game, concert, Easter egg hunt, and Christmas morning. She loved her children deeply and was happy to have many opportunities for everyone to be together in her last two years.

A celebration of her life will be held at Currents on the Charles on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 12 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,
